Technical Profile of the Monoecious Hemp Variety "Lara"

The breeding program for the "Lara" variety, conducted by the Institute of Organic Agriculture (Ukraine), aimed to address the primary challenge of industrial hemp cultivation: asynchronous maturation between male and female plants. The transition to a monoecious architecture stands as a critical engineering solution that fundamentally alters production economics.

Biological Architecture and Monoecy

Unlike dioecious varieties where male plants mature earlier than female ones, "Lara" features a monoecious structure. In practical field conditions, this provides three core advantages for the agronomist:

• Standardized Harvesting Window: The elimination of the need for selective early removal of male plants allows for a single-pass mechanical harvesting process.
• Quality Control of Raw Material: Uniform vegetative mass ensures consistent fiber quality across the entire field area.
• Low Threshold for Psychoactive Compounds: The variety's genetics strictly limit the level of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The THC content remains within legal regulatory limits, making "Lara" fully suitable for industrial applications in Ukraine without additional compliance risks.

Production Parameters

The variety is optimized for high-quality fiber and seed production. Thanks to the expertise of the Institute of Organic Agriculture, "Lara" exhibits resilience against regional climatic stresses. The biological plasticity of the variety allows for effective integration into organic crop rotations where intensive chemical use is minimized. The stability of low THC levels is verified through laboratory testing, establishing this variety as a reliable source for both the textile and food processing industries (seed and oil production).
