Mushroom sticks «Echovik Gребenchaty» — are mushrooms of original shape and flavor. In Asian cuisine, they are used as a substitute for mollusks. The fruiting body is round, light beige in color, weighing up to 2 kg. The flesh is whitish and meaty.
Grown on logs of deciduous trees under home conditions and on garden plots. Fruiting occurs in waves, 3-4 years on soft wood and 5-7 years on hard wood. The contents of the package are sufficient for inoculating a log no longer than 20-25 cm and diameter 15 cm. Yield is up to 30% of the wood mass. Consumed cooked, stewed, or fried.
Cultivation of «Echovik Gребenchaty»
Only logs of deciduous trees without signs of rot, cut 1-4 months before inoculation, are used. One package (10 pcs) is intended for a log no longer than 30 cm and up to 15 cm in diameter. Before inoculation, logs should be soaked in water for 2-3 days, and then excess water should be drained over the next day. In the prepared log, drill holes in a checkerboard pattern, 5-6 cm deep, 1 cm in diameter, spaced 10-15 cm apart. Insert the «sticks» with clean hands and cover the holes with pieces of bark, paraffin, moistened cotton, etc. After wrapping in polyethylene film, make small ventilation holes, and place in a dark, humid room for mycelium colonization.
Under favorable conditions, t=20-25°С and humidity 80-90%, the log is colonized within 2-3 months. When white mold appears at inoculation sites and on log ends, remove the film and plant the logs vertically into the soil to two-thirds of their length, placing moist leaves or straw at the bottom of the hole, choosing a shaded, wind-protected outdoor location. Indoors, plant in pots or containers with soil, suitable for non-heated rooms where optimal conditions can be created. Care involves misting the plants 2-3 times a week, and daily during the fruiting stage.
Under favorable conditions, mushrooms fruit in waves several times a year. Depending on wood density, fruiting lasts 3-7 years. Yield is 15-30% of wood mass and depends on climatic conditions. If planted in summer or autumn, fruiting will occur the next year. Inoculation of wood indoors is done year-round, while planting in soil occurs from April to October.
