Genetic Architecture of the Hybrid

The Austrian selection from Saatbau, represented by the "Lidano" hybrid, offers farmers a specialized tool for grain production. The foundation is a simple hybrid type, ensuring high crop uniformity and predictable plant development. The flint-dent grain type was selected to combine the strengths of the flint type (rapid early vigor and cold tolerance) with the high yield potential of the dent type, which is critical for achieving optimal grain moisture dry-down.

Phytopathological Resistance

The breeding strategy for "Lidano" focuses on minimizing yield losses from common pathogens. Fundamental resistance to common smut (Ustilago maydis) helps prevent ear deformation and quality degradation under stress conditions. Furthermore, the hybrid exhibits high resistance to Fusarium and stalk smut, allowing growers to reduce fungicide applications and optimize plant protection costs.

Agrotechnological Parameters

With a maturity period ranging from 108 to 116 days, "Lidano" is classified as a mid-early hybrid suitable for a wide range of agro-climatic zones. A key element for successful cultivation is adherence to the recommended planting density: 50,000 to 55,000 plants per hectare. This density allows the hybrid to fully realize its productivity potential by minimizing competition for moisture and nutrients, which is particularly important in fields with limited water availability.
