Almond MAKAKO

Spanish Genetics in Your Orchard

The 'Macaco' almond variety, developed by Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient, is a robust selection for those focusing on high-efficiency orchard management. In commercial operation, this variety stands out due to its consistent kernel output, which typically ranges from 30% to 35%. For any operator, this reliability is the cornerstone of a profitable harvest cycle.

Operational Insights

• Growth Habit: The tree exhibits a predictable canopy structure, making it highly suitable for mechanized pruning. This reduces manual labor costs and simplifies canopy management routines.
• Adaptability: Bred in Spain, this variety demonstrates notable resilience to spring temperature fluctuations, which are often a concern for almond growers in temperate regions.
• Processing Efficiency: With a stable kernel yield of 30–35%, post-harvest processing becomes significantly more predictable. This allows for better planning regarding sorting, hulling, and storage logistics.

Maintaining 'Macaco' trees does not require exotic agrochemical protocols. Standard orchard care, coupled with efficient irrigation and timely pest management, is sufficient to maintain tree vigor. Because the variety does not tend toward excessive, uncontrollable growth, keeping the orchard floor clear and maneuvering inter-row equipment is straightforward, allowing for efficient land use and ventilation within the plantation.
