Pork producers raised prices in September, marking the highest increase of the year
In September, Ukrainian pork producers recorded the largest price increase of the year. According to data provided by the State Statistics Service, the average producer price for fresh or chilled pork rose by 4.8% compared to August, reaching UAH 128.8 thousand per ton. This represents the highest price level observed in the sector throughout the current year.
Simultaneously, the average consumer price for pork in retail also went up, although at a more moderate pace. Retail prices increased by only 2%, bringing the average cost to UAH 236.08 per kilogram.
It is worth noting that this domestic price growth occurred against the backdrop of falling global pork prices. In the first month of autumn, international pork quotations actually decreased, contrasting with the upward trend seen on the Ukrainian market.
The State Statistics Service noted that all reported statistical data are compiled without taking into account the territories temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation, as well as parts of the country where active military hostilities have been or are currently being conducted.
Industry analysts and market participants have previously pointed out that under the conditions of a full-scale war, traditional cycles of high and low prices in pig farming have become significantly shorter. Prices now fluctuate more rapidly in response to ongoing economic and operational challenges.
