What can be automated at a pig farm and how much savings it will bring
Experts highlight several core production processes whose automation enables a pig complex to operate with maximum efficiency, according to The Ukrainian Farmer magazine.
Automated feeding systems can reduce feed conversion by 5-10%, accurately dose rations for different technological groups, and minimize feed losses. Specifically, computerized multiphase feeding saves an average of 15-25 kg of feed per head during the fattening period.
Automatic climate control maintains optimal temperatures and gas levels indoors, reducing animal stress and lowering the risk of pulmonary diseases by 15-20%. Additionally, automatic manure removal systems improve indoor microclimate, lower ammonia levels, and decrease the need for manual labor.
Computerized watering and medication systems ensure continuous access to clean water, precise veterinary drug dosing, and prevention of infection spread. Automatic medication combined with early disease detection through drinking monitoring helps save up to 400 additional piglets per 1,000 sows annually.
Electronic identification and sorting stations enable individual animal tracking, uniform grouping by weight, and accurate determination of slaughter readiness. Average daily weight gains increasing by 50-80 g allow the fattening period to be shortened by 7-10 days, increasing total meat output per farm area.
