As the pathogen develops, the center of the spot lightens, turning beige or light gray, which creates a contrast with the healthy tissue of the leaf. In cases of severe infection, spots may coalesce, forming large necrotic zones.

Over time, small black dots known as pycnidia form on the surface of the necrotic areas. These are the fruiting bodies of the fungus, which are easily visible to the naked eye during a careful leaf inspection.

Affected leaves gradually lose their ornamental appearance, turn yellow, and may die prematurely. In high humidity conditions, tissues in the affected areas may soften and rot.

The disease usually manifests on older or weakened leaves located in the lower part of the rosette, but without treatment, it spreads rapidly across the entire plant.

The disease is caused by the parasitic fungus Phyllosticta yuccae. It belongs to the imperfect fungi of the class Coelomycetes and specializes in infecting species of the Asparagaceae family.

The fungus leads a primarily parasitic lifestyle, entering plant tissues through micro-wounds or leaf stomata. It produces specific enzymes that degrade cell walls.

The primary method of pathogen reproduction is via conidia, which form inside pycnidia. They are spread by raindrops, irrigation water, or insects, ensuring the infection of healthy plant parts.

The fungal mycelium can survive for a long time in fallen leaves and plant debris, making them the primary source of initial infection in gardens or greenhouses.

The pathogen's life cycle is closely linked to seasonal changes, with the fungus becoming active during both warm periods and prolonged humid weather.

The development of Phyllosticta leaf spot is promoted by high air and soil humidity, as well as water stagnation in the root zone or within the leaf rosette.

A temperature range between +18°C and +25°C is most favorable for spore germination and active growth of the pathogen's mycelium.

Poor ventilation in the room or excessive planting density in the garden significantly accelerates the spread of the disease between adjacent plants.

Mechanical damage to leaves during maintenance or insect bites create entry points for infection, facilitating the penetration of fungal spores into deep tissues.

Weakened yucca immunity due to improper cultivation techniques, light deficiency, or unbalanced nutrition also increases the plant's susceptibility to this disease.

Phyllosticta leaf spot causes serious aesthetic damage, depriving the plant of its decorative value and causing deformation of the leaf blades.

As the disease progresses, photosynthesis processes are disrupted, leading to stunted yucca growth and a decrease in the plant's overall vitality.

It is recommended to follow a proper watering schedule, avoiding water entering the center of the rosette, and ensuring regular ventilation of the yucca's location.

Preventive spraying with biological agents during periods of high humidity helps increase the plant's resistance to fungal leaf spot infections.
