For optimal development, the culture requires the conditions of tropical rainforests with high rainfall throughout the year. The plant prefers well-drained, fertile soils rich in humus, which are typical of the lower layers of African jungles.

A crucial factor for growth is the availability of support, as many species of this genus exhibit strong climbing plant characteristics. Atroxima is photophilous, but in its juvenile stage, it can tolerate shading under the forest canopy.

Optimal temperature ranges for the species are between 22–28 degrees Celsius with the absence of sharp daily fluctuations. High air humidity is a critical requirement for a successful vegetative process.

Agricultural cultivation on an industrial scale is virtually undeveloped, as the plant is more commonly encountered as a wild component of the ecosystem. Propagation is mainly seed-based or through semi-hardwood cuttings in a controlled environment.

Economic use of Atroxima is limited to local traditions, where parts of the plant are used in folk medicine. Crop yield as a formal agricultural commodity has not been documented due to the lack of specialized breeding varieties.

The main threats to the population include the degradation of natural forest massifs and unregulated harvesting of plant material. Pests include specific tropical insect phytophages and fungal pathogens that affect stems under excessive humidity.
