The biology of this family is unique: bladderworts lack true roots and derive nutrients by capturing small aquatic organisms (like daphnia and larvae) via specialized traps known as bladders. They reproduce both by seeds and vegetatively through shoot fragmentation, which makes them highly resilient to conventional mechanical removal methods.

The weed's harmful impact lies in the excessive clogging of water bodies, leading to stagnant water, disrupted oxygen levels, and interference with pump operation. In rice cultivation, they compete with the crop for space and light during initial growth stages and hinder standard maintenance operations in the fields.

Control measures require a multi-faceted strategy. Agronomic methods include the periodic drying of channels to eliminate vegetative parts and the mechanical removal of plant biomass. Chemical control is restricted due to the aquatic habitat; therefore, herbicide application is only permissible under strict environmental regulations to protect aquatic ecosystems.
