In agronomy, polysaccharides are a group of natural biopolymers that act as powerful elicitors of systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in cultivated plants.

Their mechanism of action is based on the recognition of specific molecular structures of polysaccharides by plant cell receptors, which mimics a pathogen attack.

In response to this signal, the plant activates genes responsible for the synthesis of phytoalexins, lignin, and defensive proteins, strengthening tissues against infection.

Unlike classical pesticides, they do not have a direct toxic effect, but rather "train" the plant's immune system to identify threats at an early stage.

The efficacy of this group of preparations is closely linked to their ability to enhance the plant's metabolic activity during periods of abiotic stress.

What it targets

These compounds are primarily used as preventive agents against a wide range of fungal and bacterial diseases.

They effectively reduce the susceptibility of crops to powdery mildew, late blight, various types of rot, and vascular bacteriosis.

  • Vegetable crops in open and protected ground.
  • Orchards and berry plantations.
  • Vineyards to increase overall resistance.

The application of polysaccharides helps significantly reduce the viral load by limiting the spread of disease vectors.

Rates and timing

Application rates vary depending on the formulation and method of application, typically ranging from 0.5 to 3 liters of working solution per hectare.

The optimal application timing corresponds to the critical stages of crop development and the periods preceding expected disease outbreaks.

Preventive treatments are recommended at intervals of 14–21 days to maintain a high level of immune status in plants.

Polysaccharide-based preparations are well-suited for tank mixes with most micronutrient fertilizers and growth regulators, although compatibility tests are required.

It is important to note that maximum efficacy is achieved with early application, before the visual symptoms of infection manifest.

Restrictions

The main limitation is the dependence of efficacy on the physiological state of the plant: on suppressed crops, the action may be weakened.

Avoid use in extremely low temperatures, as metabolic processes slow down and the immune response will be insufficient.

Preparations must be stored in a place protected from direct sunlight at a stable temperature to prevent the degradation of polymer chains.

When working with tank mixes, follow the specified sequence of component addition to avoid precipitation due to interaction with hard water.

It is not recommended to exceed the stated dosages, as this may lead to excessive depletion of plant resources without a visible increase in the protective effect.
