The most recognizable feature of this pest is the white, cottony ovisac (egg sac) produced by the female. This structure is very conspicuous and serves as a primary visual cue for identifying an active infestation.

While adult females are fixed to one spot, the first-instar larvae, often called crawlers, are highly mobile. They use their legs to disperse across the host plant or even to neighboring plants via wind or contact.

The body of the adult female is usually oval and protected by a waxy covering that can blend in with the bark. However, the contrast between the white ovisac and the plant foliage makes detection easier during the egg-laying phase.

These insects thrive in environments with stable temperatures, often becoming problematic in greenhouses or sheltered outdoor environments where natural predators are absent.
