Adult aphids are typically 1.5 to 2 mm long. Their bodies are soft and vary in color from pale green to greyish-green, allowing them to blend perfectly with the young leaves.

The life cycle is quite complex. It starts with overwintering eggs laid in the crevices of bark or near buds. In spring, these hatch into stem mothers that initiate the first generation.

These insects reproduce through parthenogenesis during the spring and summer months, allowing populations to expand rapidly within a few days if left unchecked.

In autumn, sexual forms develop. These mate and lay eggs, which serve as the overwintering stage, ensuring the pest survives until the following spring.

This pest feeds primarily on honeysuckle shrubs. It uses its piercing-sucking mouthparts to extract vital sap from young leaves and developing shoots.

Feeding causes leaves to curl, twist, and sometimes yellow. The stunted growth of new shoots is a common result of severe aphid activity during the active growth period.
