The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The females typically deposit eggs into plant tissue or near decaying matter. Once hatched, the larvae feed on plant tissues, often creating tunnels that lead to the internal decay of fruits, stems, or roots, significantly weakening the structural integrity of the plant.
The severity of the damage is often exacerbated by secondary bacterial or fungal infections that enter through the wounds caused by the larvae.
