The adult body is typically convex and measures a few millimeters in length. Because of their morphology, they often resemble small bumps or bark irregularities, making them difficult to detect during the early stages of an infestation.
The juvenile stages, known as crawlers, are highly mobile when they first emerge. They possess a flattened body and well-developed legs, allowing them to migrate across stems and leaves in search of optimal feeding sites.

What it damages

The primary damage is caused by the extraction of plant sap from vascular tissues. This feeding process results in stunted growth, leaf deformation, and premature defoliation, which severely compromises the plant's health and vigor.
As they feed, these insects secrete honeydew, a sticky and sugary liquid. This residue serves as a growth medium for sooty mold, which covers the leaf surface with a dark layer, significantly inhibiting the plant's photosynthetic capacity.
