Cisticolids frequently damage crops such as rice, sorghum, millet, and young vegetable shoots. Their harmfulness manifests in the pecking of seeds from panicles and spikes, as well as mechanical damage to tender seedling tissues while foraging. Birds may consume germinating seeds directly from the soil, disrupting plant density.

The biology of these birds is characterized by high nesting activity. Their life cycle is closely linked to the availability of cover provided by tall grass, reeds, or agricultural plantings. Breeding typically occurs during periods of maximum food availability, which often overlaps with the active growth stage of crops, increasing pressure on agroecosystems.

Protection measures include the use of visual and acoustic deterrents, the installation of protective netting on smaller plots, and agronomic strategies such as adjusting planting dates or selecting crop varieties with tighter spike structures. Establishing buffer zones with alternative food sources away from main fields is also a recommended strategy.
