The family Gelastocoridae, commonly known as toad bugs, belongs to the order Hemiptera. These insects are easily recognized by their stout, toad-like body shape and their ability to jump. They are primarily found in moist habitats, typically living on the banks of ponds, streams, or in irrigated agricultural fields where high moisture levels are maintained.

Heavy infestations in sensitive crop areas may lead to disturbances in the topsoil and potential mechanical damage to young, tender seedlings during their hunting activities. They are rarely a major economic threat, but they can be a nuisance in specific irrigation-dependent farming systems.
Management strategies for Gelastocoridae are primarily based on environmental manipulation rather than chemical control. Improving soil drainage, regular cultivation to break up the soil surface, and managing irrigation to avoid excessive water accumulation are the most effective methods. Insecticides should be used sparingly, as these bugs often coexist with other beneficial predatory insects that help regulate common pest populations.
