Barnyard grass

The plant features a robust root system and can grow up to 100 cm in height. The leaves are broad and linear with a sharp tip, often exhibiting a smooth texture that helps in early identification.

The inflorescence is a dense panicle, often branched, containing numerous spikelets. The color of the spikelets can range from green to deep purple depending on environmental conditions.

Barnyard grass is highly prolific, with a single plant capable of producing up to 15,000 seeds that can remain viable in the soil for many years, waiting for favorable conditions.

Beyond being a competitor, this weed acts as an important reservoir for various plant pathogens, including viruses and bacteria that can devastate crop yields.
