Tomato L-24-18

Why L-24-18 stands out among large-fruited tomatoes

In the world of large-fruited tomatoes, L-24-18 holds a firm position as a reliable, mid-to-late season performer. The standout feature is its consistent ability to produce fruits weighing over 200 grams, all while maintaining a classic, vibrant red color. As an indeterminate variety, it demands more from the grower in terms of pruning and trellis support, but the reward is a high yield of dense, meaty fruits that excel in both fresh consumption and processing.

Cultivation and Performance

With a maturity period of 120–130 days, L-24-18 is designed for growers who prioritize quality over quick turnover. In Russian agricultural conditions, it is best suited for greenhouse cultivation or high-quality seedling transplanting to maximize the harvest window. Key considerations for success:

• Growth management: As an indeterminate variety, strict adherence to pruning (1-2 stems) is essential. Neglecting this will significantly reduce fruit size and overall plant health.
• Harvest appeal: The fruits are firm and possess an attractive color, making them highly marketable for farmers who sell at local fresh markets.
• Soil nutrition: Given the size of the fruit (>200g), the plant requires a balanced fertilizer regimen, focusing on potassium during the fruiting stage.

Is this the right choice for you?

L-24-18 is not intended for the casual gardener looking for a "low-maintenance" early harvest. Instead, it is a professional-grade selection for those who want consistent, heavy fruit and are prepared to manage a longer growing cycle. Its primary drawback—the lengthy maturation—means it is best suited for regions with stable late-summer temperatures or climate-controlled environments. If you value fruit density and substantial weight, this variety offers reliable performance.
