Jurmala

Jurmala F1 is an early hybrid sweet corn developed by the Ukrainian company Mnagor. It is characterized by high yield and large, well-filled ears about 22-23 cm long with bright yellow kernels. The ear shape is semi-cylindrical, and the weight reaches approximately 250 grams, ensuring high marketability. The plant is strong and tall, reaching 160-250 cm in height, with a well-developed root system and dark green broad leaves, which contribute to resistance to lodging and various corn diseases.

The hybrid belongs to the Sh2 type, meaning it contains more than 23% sugar, significantly exceeding the levels of regular sweet corn. Due to this, Jurmala has a rich honey-like flavor and high keeping quality — the sugar slowly converts into starch, allowing it to maintain its appearance and taste qualities for up to three weeks after harvest. This makes the corn ideal for fresh consumption, as well as for freezing and canning, while retaining its bright color and appeal.

The maturation period of the hybrid is 71-73 days, allowing for an early harvest. Jurmala demonstrates high resistance to major corn diseases such as helminthosporiosis, fusarium, and gray leaf spot, as well as good drought and heat tolerance. The plant forms 1.5-2 ears per plant, with 14-18 rows of kernels and 44-46 kernels per row, ensuring high productivity. The hybrid is recommended for cultivation under Ukrainian climate conditions and requires spatial isolation from other corn types to maintain seed purity.
