The 'Ussurian' paise is an annual grass-like plant from the grass family, specifically adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of Primorsky Krai. It forms an upright, tall bush (70–150 cm), which ensures good crop thickening and resistance to excessive moisture.
The variety is characterized by high yield of both green mass and seeds: under optimal conditions, one can obtain over 40 t/ha of green mass and over 2 t/ha of seeds. The weight of 1000 grains is 2.5–3.0 g, and the vegetative period is 90–102 days, making it convenient for planning agricultural cycles.
The 'Ussurian' paise is distinguished by its high protein content (7–10% crude protein) and good energy value, thanks to 20–30% dry matter and 22–27% soluble sugars. This makes it an excellent component for mixed planting with soybeans, as well as suitable material for silage and green fodder production. The variety was registered in 1957 and has since been successfully used in Primorsky Krai.
