Provado

Systemic Protection in Tablet Form

«Provado» from the German conglomerate Bayer is a classic choice in the indoor and decorative floriculture sector. Unlike standard sprays or liquid concentrates that require tedious preparation of working solutions, Bayer introduced an innovative tablet application format. This systemic pesticide does not merely coat the leaf surface; it circulates through the plant's vascular system, making the plant unpalatable to pests for up to 6–8 weeks.

Composition and Mode of Action

The core active ingredient is imidacloprid, the gold standard of the neonicotinoid class. It is complemented by a balanced complex of macronutrients, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium. This synergy transforms the product into a two-in-one solution: it eliminates parasites while providing gentle root fertilization that stimulates growth in stressed plants.

Spectrum of Control

The product demonstrates high efficacy against a wide array of sap-sucking insects that are typically difficult to eradicate with contact-only insecticides:

• All aphid species (including leaf aphids).
• Thrips, which can rapidly destroy growth points.
• Leafhoppers and bugs.
• Scale insects and mealybugs.
• Vine weevils (root weevils).

Usage Highlights

The main advantage of Provado is the convenience of soil application. The tablet is simply pressed into dampened soil near the plant. Due to its systemic action, the active ingredient is absorbed by the roots and transported to the foliage. This eliminates the risk of inhaling vapors, which is crucial for indoor use. Classified under hazard class 3 (moderately hazardous), the product is safe for residential use provided standard precautions are taken, such as preventing children or pets from accessing the treated soil.

For professional and amateur growers alike, this product serves as reliable «insurance»: a single application during transplanting or at the start of the spring season provides effective, long-term protection against pests throughout the entire active growth phase.
