When it comes to pest control in corn fields, choosing a product often comes down to finding the right balance between a "shock" effect and long-term protection. Fospirat, EC from the German manufacturer "MAC GmbH" (Zigmarszil, Germany) is a classic "heavyweight" insecticide that operates on the principle of a double strike.

Why is Fospirat Effective?

The secret to the product's high performance lies in the combination of two active ingredients: Chlorpyrifos and Cypermethrin. This combination overcomes the individual weaknesses of each component:

• Cypermethrin provides a lightning-fast "knockdown effect": the insect loses the ability to feed and move almost immediately upon contact with the spray droplets.
• Chlorpyrifos adds depth to the impact, possessing not only contact properties but also a fumigant effect. This is critical when fighting hidden pests such as the European corn borer or wireworms.

The product is ideal for farms dealing with massive pest outbreaks. It is effective against the cotton bollworm, cereal ground beetle, meadow moth, and aphids. Its contact-based action makes it an indispensable tool during critical growth phases of the crop.

Technical Application Notes

Fospirat is supplied as an emulsifiable concentrate, which simplifies the preparation of tank mixes. With a dosage of 1–1.5 L/ha, it provides consistent results. However, it is important to remember that this is a Class 2 hazard product. Handling requires strict safety compliance, and the use of PPE is mandatory.

The optimal strategy involves no more than two treatments per season, with intervals necessary for population control. Pay attention to the pre-harvest interval: it is 30 days. This must be considered when planning the harvesting campaign.
