Herbicides (from Latin 'herba' - herb and 'caedo' - kill) - a class of pesticides designed to combat unwanted vegetation. They are used both to destroy already growing plants and to prevent their emergence. In most cases, herbicides are used to combat weeds in agricultural crops. The use of herbicides allows for minimal or complete elimination of manual or mechanical soil treatment, which in turn prevents soil erosion and reduces unnecessary water loss.
