Autumn Sowing in Bukovina: Over 60% of Areas Sown with Winter Cereals
The active autumn sowing campaign for the 2027 harvest is underway in the Chernivtsi region. By the end of October, local farmers have already completed the bulk of the fieldwork, having sown over 60% of the planned areas dedicated to winter cereal crops.
According to official information from the Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration, as of October 20, some 21.9 thousand hectares were allocated for winter cereals, which accounts for 62% of the forecasted area. Overall, the region plans to sow 46.9 thousand hectares of winter crops, matching last year's level.
Farms traditionally focus primarily on winter wheat, which covers 28.5 thousand hectares. Sowing of winter barley on 6.6 thousand hectares and winter rye on 0.2 thousand hectares is also ongoing. The total area of the cereal group this season in the region is expected to reach 35.3 thousand hectares.
It is worth noting that winter rapeseed sowing has already been fully completed in the Chernivtsi region, with 11.6 thousand hectares sown. This high level of organization allows farmers to make the most of favorable weather conditions to prepare winter crops for the wintering period.
Completing the sowing campaign within optimal timeframes is critically important for the formation of the future harvest. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of agricultural enterprises, Bukovina demonstrates stability in ensuring food security and maintaining proper technological processes.
