Volyn Region Completes Winter Crops Sowing on 146 Thousand Hectares
Farmers in Volyn Oblast have officially completed the sowing campaign for winter cereal crops and winter rapeseed for the 2027 harvest. According to operational data as of October 19, 2026, winter cereals have been sown across 146 thousand hectares in all categories of farms in the region. The sowing campaign proceeded under favorable agro-climatic conditions, which had a positive impact on the condition of early emerging crops.
The largest areas among winter cereals are allocated to wheat and triticale, covering 125 thousand hectares. Specifically, over the past week, farmers completed the sowing of the final 4 thousand hectares of winter wheat. Winter rye has been planted on 11 thousand hectares, and winter barley accounts for 10 thousand hectares.
In addition to cereals, the regional plan for winter rapeseed sowing has been fully implemented, covering 34 thousand hectares. According to specialists' estimates, the early rapeseed crops are currently in good and satisfactory condition, creating favorable prerequisites for their further development ahead of the winter period.
Simultaneously, the region is actively harvesting grain and leguminous crops. As of October 19, they have been threshed on an area of 228.65 thousand hectares, representing 78% of the projected volume. Overall, farmers have harvested 1.035 million tons of grain with an average yield of 4.53 tons per hectare.
The harvesting of oilseeds is also progressing rapidly, with sunflower and soybean gathering nearing completion. Following the successful end of the autumn sowing campaign, Volyn agricultural producers are now focusing on completing late crop harvesting and preparing soils for winter.
