In Kyiv Region, Air Temperature Transition Through +10 °C Occurred 2.5–3 Weeks Later Than Usual
In the majority of the Kyiv region, the steady transition of daily average air temperature through the +10 °C mark occurred 2.5–3 weeks later than standard multi-year periods. This is stated in an analytical report by the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (NAAS).
Experts note that from the beginning of September until October 31, the sum of effective air temperatures above +5 °C across the region exceeded long-term average indicators by 92–133 °C. Such prolonged warm autumn conditions significantly shifted the calendar framework of agrometeorological transitions.
By the end of October, productive moisture reserves in the arable soil layer under winter crops and fallow land were sufficient and optimal, ranging between 27–47 mm. In the one-meter soil layer across most sown areas of the region, moisture reserves stood at 65–98%, while certain fields in the south-western districts reached 125% of long-term average values.
During the third decade of October, most winter crop areas showed the formation of the 3rd leaf, nodal roots, and tillering, while late crops in eastern districts continued emergence processes. The overall condition of the crops across the region is characterized primarily as good and excellent.
According to the NSC 'Institute of Agriculture of NAAS', winter cereal crops (wheat, barley, rye) sown within optimal periods (September 28) are at the beginning of the tillering phase. The tillering coefficient ranged from 1.0 to 1.9, plant height reached 18–20 cm, and the mass of 100 raw plants weighed 58–83 g.
In the operational zone of the Panfilivka Research Station (Left-Bank Forest-Steppe), corn plants are in the full maturity phase with a grain moisture of 18–25%. Winter rapeseed plants have formed their second pair of true leaves, and winter wheat plants are in the one-to-three-leaf phases, with all winter crop plantings remaining in good condition.
