Furthermore, neglecting environmental sanitation is a guaranteed recipe for reinfection. Thoroughly disinfecting enclosures and daily removal of feces are non-negotiable practices, as medication alone cannot protect an animal that remains exposed to a contaminated environment.

Prevention is fundamentally superior to treatment. Effective preventive strategies include minimizing overcrowding, maintaining dry living environments, ensuring clean water and feed sources, and implementing quarantine protocols for any new animals introduced to a group. Since oocysts thrive in moisture, good drainage and dry conditions are essential in livestock pastures and pet enclosures alike. By strictly adhering to these hygiene practices, owners can significantly lower the prevalence of coccidiosis and protect their animals from the long-term complications of the disease.
