Pyrrosia elaeagnifolia is a distinct member of the Polypodiaceae family, widely recognized for its unique, leathery foliage. As an epiphyte, it originates from New Zealand, where it naturally inhabits tree trunks and cliff faces.

The plant features succulent-like, oval leaves with a dense, felted indumentum on the underside. This biological structure serves as a crucial adaptation to regulate water loss and withstand varying moisture conditions.

Cultivation requires bright, indirect light to maintain foliage health and density. Direct sunlight should be strictly avoided as it can cause desiccation and permanent damage to the delicate leaf surface.

Optimal growth is achieved in a specialized, coarse substrate. A blend of pine bark, perlite, and a small portion of peat moss ensures necessary aeration and moisture retention for the root system.

Climate control is essential: the plant thrives in stable temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. Humidity should be maintained at a moderate level, ensuring that air circulation is sufficient to prevent stagnant conditions.
