Reinforced Concrete Beams: Why Are They Used in Construction?

When constructing multi-story residential or industrial buildings, it is necessary to account for the weight and pressure of each floor and use building materials that help properly distribute the load. For this purpose, various reinforced concrete products are employed. One of them is beam, which is installed in walls and above window and door openings.

They are used when building walls from various types of artificial materials, such as brick or slag block. Their main purpose is to withstand the pressure transmitted from walls and ceilings of upper floors and redistribute it to the edges of the opening.

"Beton od Kovalska" – a Ukrainian manufacturer with a long history and extensive experience, specializing in producing various types of reinforced concrete products, including beam floors. The enterprises and workshops belonging to the PBG "Kovalska" operate on high-tech equipment and produce a wide range of products to meet any requirements.

Types of beams and their features

There are two groups of reinforced concrete beams:

  1. Non-load-bearing. These products can withstand only their own weight and a small additional load. They are installed in partitions to form the top of the opening for windows or inter-room doors;
  2. Load-bearing. These are specifically designed to withstand pressure from structures located above, so they are installed in exterior walls.

PBG "Kovalska" manufactures three types of beams:

  • Beam;
  • Slab;
  • Beam-like.

Beam-like beams, in shape, resemble the letter "G" due to their cross-section. They cover openings in brick walls, resting on the lintel of the floor slab. Slab beams have enhanced reinforcement since they are designed for thick walls. The others are suitable for construction under normal conditions.

To manufacture all types of beams, concrete class B15 (heavy) is used, and the frost resistance level is selected according to future operating conditions inside the building. The construction of the products includes the presence of lifting loops designed for handling during transportation and installation works.
