The life cycle involves an egg stage, several nymphal instars, and the adult stage. The nymphs resemble smaller versions of adults and are highly active during the spring when ash foliage begins to develop.

Overwintering occurs primarily in the egg stage. Females deposit eggs beneath the bark of young twigs or within the bud tissues, ensuring the next generation survives winter temperatures.
