Glasshouse aphid

The adult aphids are typically 1.5–2.5 mm long, ranging in color from pale green to yellowish-brown, often with darker long antennae that are a key diagnostic feature.

The species reproduces through parthenogenesis, allowing for explosive population growth. A single female can produce multiple offspring daily under favorable conditions.

Both winged and wingless forms exist within the colony. Winged individuals allow the population to disperse rapidly to neighboring plants when overcrowding occurs.

They are particularly hardy and can thrive at lower temperatures compared to other aphid species, extending their activity period throughout the winter months in unheated greenhouses.

This species is highly polyphagous, attacking a wide range of horticultural, vegetable, and ornamental plants, including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and various house plants.

The aphids feed by piercing the plant tissues and extracting sap, which deprives the plant of essential nutrients and disrupts its normal physiological functions.

Feeding damage leads to leaf curling, stunting of growth, and severe deformation of the growing tips, which significantly reduces the quality of the harvested crops.
