The genus Pratylenchoides belongs to the family Pratylenchidae within the order Tylenchida. These are endoparasitic nematodes that primarily reside within plant roots and the surrounding soil environment.

Identification is challenging because these microscopic worms typically range from 0.5 to 1.0 mm in length. Accurate diagnosis requires laboratory analysis, including extraction from soil or root tissues followed by microscopic examination of morphological traits.

The nematodes are equipped with a strong stylet, which they use to puncture plant cells. Unlike sedentary nematodes, members of this genus are migratory and can move freely between different parts of the root system and the surrounding soil.
