These nematodes possess a slender, worm-like body structure typical of the genus Hirschmanniella. They are equipped with a well-developed stylet, which they utilize to penetrate plant cell walls and feed on the cytoplasm, causing significant cellular damage during their development.
What it damages
This nematode species is primarily associated with rice and other hydrophytic crops. By invading the roots, the nematodes disrupt the normal development of the plant's vascular tissue, hindering the transport of water and essential nutrients from the soil.
As the nematodes migrate within the root cortex, they cause structural lesions. This internal damage creates entry points for secondary soil-borne pathogens, such as fungi and bacteria, which further weaken the plant and reduce overall crop vigor and yield.
