The primary objects of damage are various species of the genus Eucalyptus. These animals exhibit high selectivity in their diet, consuming young shoots, leaves, and buds. In areas with high population density, they can strip crowns leading to severe defoliation, which causes the weakening or death of commercial timber crops.

The biology of the species is characterized by an extremely slow metabolism and a highly specialized diet. The breeding season typically occurs during the spring and summer, with females producing one joey per year. Their life cycle is deeply tied to the health and availability of eucalyptus forests, forcing them to migrate in search of succulent and nutrient-rich young leaves.

The pattern of damage includes girdled branches and deformed terminal shoots on young trees. The economic impact arises not only from the mechanical loss of biomass but also from the stress placed on the trees, which makes them susceptible to secondary fungal and bacterial infections that further degrade the quality of the forest stand.

Protection measures include the establishment of buffer zones and the application of repellents to deter individuals from young plantations. In industrial forestry, exclusion fencing is often employed to prevent access by marsupials. Population management must be conducted in strict accordance with national wildlife protection laws, as the species remains under state conservation.
