The pest primarily attaches itself to the stems, leaves, and roots of aquatic vegetation. While their diet consists mainly of zooplankton, high-density colonies cause significant mechanical damage to the host plant's epidermis. This physical obstruction hinders photosynthesis and interferes with the normal physiological development of the plant tissue.

The biological cycle of Campanulariidae includes a sessile polyp stage and a free-swimming medusa stage. Their ability to reproduce rapidly through budding allows them to cover available surfaces in a short timeframe. The colonies are protected by a tough, chitinous structure, which provides high resistance against environmental fluctuations and many conventional removal methods.
