The biology of Phoenicococcidae is defined by an extreme adaptation to a sedentary lifestyle. Adult females are wingless and stay firmly attached to the host plant, often secreting a protective wax that shields them from predators and many environmental stresses. The dispersal of the species occurs primarily during the crawler stage, when the newly hatched larvae move to new parts of the plant to settle and feed.

These insects cause direct damage by inserting their stylets into the plant tissue to extract phloem sap. This feeding process results in severe physiological stress, which manifests as yellowing of the fronds, reduction in photosynthesis, and stunted growth. In severe infestations, the accumulation of scale insects can lead to the necrosis of leaf tissues and premature senescence of the palm foliage.

The cryptic nature of these pests makes detection difficult, as they often aggregate in sheltered areas such as the leaf bases or beneath the fibrous layers of the palm trunk.
