Adults possess specialized legs for jumping and well-developed wings, allowing for rapid movement and spread across agricultural fields. They have a characteristic head shape typical of the family, and their mouthparts are modified into a piercing-sucking stylet.
Nymphs resemble the adults in appearance but are smaller and lack fully developed wings. They undergo several developmental stages, gradually increasing in size while maintaining the species-specific green coloration throughout their growth.
This species is a typical sucking pest that thrives in warm and humid conditions. The optimal temperature range for their development and rapid population growth is between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.
The life cycle includes an egg stage, which is embedded directly into the plant tissue, making it difficult to target during the initial stages of infestation. The number of generations per season depends on the local climatic conditions.

This pest affects a wide range of agricultural crops, including vegetables, legumes, and industrial plants. Eggplants, beans, tomatoes, cotton, and various cucurbits are particularly susceptible to Empoasca punjabensis damage.

Agronomists advise inspecting the underside of leaves during the morning hours when insects are less active. This is where the majority of the population is concentrated during the day.
Signs of infestation
