Halina – Halenia is a perennial berry from the raspberry family that can reach heights of up to 3 meters and forms a creeping rootstock up to 25 cm deep. The plant blooms in May with white, dark-pink, or raspberry buds, and in July, sweet, fragrant berries of various shades appear – red-white, purple, and dark-cherry. The flavor of the fruits resembles a mix of pineapple and strawberry, making them popular both fresh and for infusions.
Halenia prefers moist areas – marshy places, peatlands, sandstones, semi-shade or shade under trees. The plant grows well on light, slightly acidic soil with good moisture retention and can withstand low temperatures down to -40 °C, making it suitable for northern regions. The harvest is collected in July–September; berries can ripen unevenly, so collection continues until the end of September.
Care for the bush is simple: regular watering, weed removal, feeding with complex fertilizers, and sanitary pruning. Halenia is resistant to diseases, but if viral symptoms appear, affected parts must be removed and treated with a fungicide. Berries have antiseptic properties, strengthen immunity, and promote endorphin production; their infusions are used for stomatitis, angina, and other inflammatory conditions.
Varieties «Anna» and «Sofia» are popular options. The culture easily fits into garden compositions as a decorative element due to bright berries and attractive bush appearance.
