The product is based on ethofumesate, a selective substance from the benzofuran class. Unlike contact herbicides, ethofumesate inhibits cell division and lipid synthesis in young weed tissues. Due to its systemic activity, the preparation is absorbed through the hypocotyl and roots of germinating weeds, making it a critical tool for managing difficult-to-control dicotyledonous species in beet crops.
Selectivity and Soil Activity
Stemate 500, SC was developed by DDE Farm AG as a soil-applied herbicide that provides a "screen" effect. Key benefits of its application include:
- Emergence Control: Effective against redroot pigweed, shepherd's purse, common chickweed, cleavers, and purple dead-nettle.
- Selectivity: Due to the ability of crop plants to rapidly metabolize ethofumesate, the product does not exert phytotoxic effects on beets while completely blocking the development of susceptible weeds.
- Application Flexibility: Up to 3 treatments per season are allowed, allowing the application rate (1–2 L/ha) to be adjusted according to the actual weed infestation level.
