Soil-applied herbicide efficiency: working with Protex, SC

When choosing a pre-emergence herbicide, predictability is the key. Protex, SC from Shandong Qiaochang Chemical Co. Ltd. is a reliable tool for those who prefer to manage weed pressure before it becomes a problem. Based on prometryn, this herbicide offers excellent selective control. As an operator, I have found that the quality of seedbed preparation directly correlates with its performance—the smoother the soil, the more consistent the protective screen.

Operational insights

• Application and Handling: The suspension concentrate formulation is easy to mix. It stays in suspension well and does not clog spray nozzles, which is a major plus during a busy planting season. With an application rate of 2–4 L/ha, I adjust the dosage according to the soil type: lower rates for sandy soils and higher ones for heavy clay or high-humus soils to ensure long-lasting activity.
• Selective Control: I have applied it on sunflowers and potatoes, and as long as you hit the pre-emergence timing, the crop shows no signs of stress. It effectively targets annual broadleaf and grass weeds, allowing the crop to develop without early-stage competition.
• Systemic Approach: Since this is a root-absorbed systemic herbicide, soil moisture is critical for success. It is not designed for dry soil, so timing the application relative to rainfall is key to getting the best results.
