Systemic control of complex weeds: how Alpha-Dicamba works

The product is based on dicamba in a water-soluble concentrate formulation — a classic auxin-type herbicide. Once it hits the leaf surface, the active ingredient rapidly penetrates into the weed’s meristematic tissues, blocking photosynthesis and cell division. Unlike contact herbicides, Alpha-Dicamba works systemically: the active component moves through the phloem and xylem to reach the roots, which is crucial for controlling perennial creeping weeds.

Technical insight: selectivity and performance

• Selective approach: Designed as a selective herbicide, it allows for application in winter wheat, barley, and corn crops without risking damage to the crops, provided the application protocols are followed.
• Target spectrum: The main targets are hard-to-eradicate dicotyledonous weeds. Field bindweed, catchweed bedstraw, creeping thistle, and common ragweed suffer critical tissue damage within hours of application.
• Flexible dosage: Depending on weed density and crop development stage, agronomists can adjust the application rate from 0.5–1.0 L/ha (for standard cases) up to more than 3.0 L/ha (for more challenging conditions).

Alpha-Dicamba falls under the 3rd hazard class, requiring strict safety adherence when preparing the spray solution. As a post-emergence insurance herbicide, it efficiently cleans fields during the active vegetation period. A significant advantage of the SL (soluble concentrate) formulation is its ease of mixing in tank mixes and minimal risk of sediment in the sprayer, assuming proper water preparation.
