Adaptability and Field Performance of AFK Viner

A 2026 Ukrainian breeding novelty, the AFK Viner hybrid, was developed by the 'Agrofirma Kolos' team as a specialized solution for grain production. In the conditions of the Polissya region, where moisture release rates and temperature fluctuation resistance are key success factors, this hybrid demonstrates balanced development.

Morphological Features and Resistance

The plant possesses a robust habitus; according to UPOV classification, AFK Viner belongs to the category of long plants. A critical characteristic is the low attachment of the upper ear, which, combined with moderate stem zigzagging, ensures high resistance to lodging even during late harvesting. The large-diameter conical ear allows for efficient grain mass accumulation, while the plant maintains an intense green leaf color throughout the long vegetation period.

Reaction to Stress Factors

The mid-ripening group allows the hybrid to optimally utilize the moisture availability of the Polissya zone. The weak anthocyanin coloration of the anthers and glumes indicates physiological balance in metabolic processes, reducing the risk of pollen sterility during short-term heat stress. The moderate waviness of the leaf edge and the small angle between the leaf blade and the stem promote better aeration of the crops, minimizing pathogen development in the lower part of the plant.
