About product
A vegetable burdock variety with high polysaccharide content, adapted for all climatic zones of Ukraine.
Description
Gastronomic Potential and Breeding
The 'Imenynnyk' burdock variety, registered in 2026, is a product of the 'Mayak' Research Station of the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS of Ukraine. Unlike wild forms, this vegetable variety is adapted for cultivation across all agro-climatic zones of Ukraine, from the Steppe to Polissya. Its key advantage is a high accumulation of polysaccharides (specifically inulin), making it a valuable crop for functional food production.
Morphological Features
The plant is characterized by its compact size: a low rosette with broad, ovate leaf blades. The absence of anthocyanin coloration on the main vein and moderate stem pubescence simplify crop maintenance. The medium-diameter root neck ensures convenience during harvesting, while the flattened-globular shape of the large flower heads indicates high seed productivity.
Target Audience
‘Imenynnyk’ is designed for farms specializing in niche vegetable crops. With a medium vegetation period in the second year of life and stable seed weight, the variety offers predictable production results. The high content of beneficial compounds in the roots allows for both fresh market use and processing for the food industry.
