Narymskaya 2 is a perennial grass of the genus Beckmannia, belonging to the Poaceae family, intended for cultivation on field plots with high soil moisture, especially on inundation meadows. The bush is upright, of medium density and height (about 112 cm), and forms 24–28 stems during the second year of life. The vegetative period ranges from 53 to 63 days until the first cut and from 89 to 96 days until full seed maturity.
The variety is distinguished by high resistance to flooding with floodwaters for up to 100 days or more, as well as good winter hardiness and drought tolerance. Due to rapid spring growth and the ability to regrow quickly after a period of moisture, Narymskaya 2 is suitable for lawn reclamation on excessively wet areas.
Green mass yield reaches 187 c/ha, hay – 54 c/ha, seeds – 2.5 c/ha. Protein content in green mass ranges from 8.0% to 12.8%, and fiber – from 28% to 38%. High palatability and a complex of traits of resistance to extreme conditions make this variety valuable as both pasture and haymaking plant. Narymskaya 2 is one of two varieties of common Beckmannia developed in the Narym Department of SIBNIISHiT, and is distinguished by good adaptation to harsh Siberian climatic conditions.
