Prices for Greenhouse Tomatoes in Ukraine Rise for the Second Consecutive Week

Throughout October, a steady increase in prices has been recorded in the Ukrainian greenhouse tomato market. The main drivers behind this trend are unfavorable weather conditions, specifically a noticeable cold snap that negatively affected growing conditions. As a result, harvesting in stationary greenhouses has slowed down, while supplies from film-covered farming operations have ceased completely.

As of October 16, Ukrainian producers are realizing greenhouse tomatoes at prices ranging from 50 to 75 UAH per kilogram. This represents an increase of approximately 14% compared to the end of the preceding week. Price growth has now continued for the second week in a row, with experts citing adverse weather as the primary cause. The drop in temperatures has slowed down the ripening of fruits in most stationary greenhouse complexes across the country.

The volume of local produce on the market remains small and unstable. Current imports of tomatoes are not yet able to fully compensate for the resulting market deficit. Meanwhile, consumer demand for greenhouse tomatoes remains high, prompting producers to continue raising their selling prices.

Despite the current price hike, overall price levels remain lower than they were during the same period last year. Tomatoes are currently about 18% cheaper than in October 2025, when greenhouse complexes offered them at 80–90 UAH/kg, and prices were rising for the third consecutive week.

Looking ahead, analysts expect further price increases for tomatoes due to limited domestic supply. The shortage of local produce is anticipated to maintain upward pressure on the market in the near future.
