Kochi: India currently has adequate fertiliser stocks, but a prolonged conflict in West Asia could affect future crop seasons. FACT Managing Director S Sakthimani told PTI that there is sufficient urea for the upcoming Kharif season and that the war is expected to be resolved within a month.

There are no current gas-line problems reported, but global instability could disrupt logistics. FACT holds about 1.4 lakh metric tons of fertiliser stock and expects to produce 1.5 lakh metric tons between March and April 2026.

The company targets 5.5 lakh metric tons for the Kharif season by September 2026, with an import plan of about 1 lakh metric tons; central government has procured stocks of DAP and DSP from various companies.

FACT commits to meeting all fertiliser needs of farmers; it sources raw materials such as rock phosphate and phosphoric acid from West Asia and the Middle East, and gas from Australia as needed.

Officials say this is a temporary phase; with government support, supply will be maintained even if disruption continues beyond April 2026 for the 2026-27 Kharif season.
