Grain and Oilseed Market: Quotations Decline on Leading World Exchanges

December futures for soft red winter wheat on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) decreased to $246.18 per ton. Meanwhile, December futures for hard red winter wheat on the KCBT in Kansas City dropped to $261.98 per ton, and December hard red spring wheat futures on the MGEX in Minneapolis fell to $252.06 per ton.

Session closing details indicate a downward correction across multiple positions. December soft red winter wheat futures (SRW) in Chicago closed at $6.70, down 3 ¼ cents, while March SRW futures closed at $6.84-1/4, down 2 ¼ cents. December hard red winter wheat futures (HRW) in Kansas City closed at $7.13, down 2 cents, and March HRW futures finished at $7.24-3/4, down 2 cents. December Minneapolis spring wheat futures (MGEX) closed at $6.86, dropping 4 cents, and March MGEX futures settled at $7.04-1/2, down 4 ¾ cents.

Market participants and traders are closely awaiting the USDA export sales report scheduled for release on Friday. Traders will be monitoring whether the recent drop in US prices has stimulated an increase in foreign demand. Analysts surveyed by Reuters forecast wheat export sales to range between 300,000 and 600,000 tons for the week ending October 8.

In the European Union, production estimates remained steady. EU wheat production in October was estimated at 126.1 million tons, matching previous figures. Additionally, EU planting areas for 2027 are expected to decrease by nearly 2% compared to the 21.41 million hectares (52.9 million acres) planted in 2026.

Alongside the wheat market, other agricultural commodities also faced downward pressure. On Thursday, corn futures closed lower following reports of increased production volumes in Brazil. Consequently, December corn futures settled at $4.78, down 2 cents by the end of the trading session.
