Kyrgyzstan and Italy seal agriculture mechanization cooperation deal
The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan has signed a memorandum with Italy's FederUnacoma to modernize the agro-industrial sector.
Kyrgyzstan and Italy have officially formalized a partnership aimed at advancing agricultural mechanization and implementing modern farming technologies. This cooperation is established through a memorandum signed between Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry and Italy’s National Federation of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers (FederUnacoma). The official announcement regarding this deal was released by the ministry on July 11, 2026.
The primary objective of the document is to strengthen bilateral cooperation focused on the technological modernization of Kyrgyzstan's agro-industrial sector. The involved parties intend to prioritize the promotion of innovative farming practices, the execution of joint investment projects, and the renewal of the country's agricultural machinery fleet. A critical aspect of this partnership involves sharing expertise in the digitalization of the industry and providing technical upgrades to farms.
During the high-level meetings, representatives discussed potential opportunities for the joint production of agricultural machinery within Kyrgyzstan. Implementing such initiatives is viewed as a vital step toward enhancing the competitiveness of the local agricultural sector. Officials from both nations reaffirmed their commitment to expanding long-term cooperation, which will facilitate the integration of Italian technologies to boost the productivity of the republic's agricultural sector.
Furthermore, to deepen industry-level interaction, a separate memorandum of understanding was signed between the Association for the Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex of Kyrgyzstan and FederUnacoma. This document serves as a foundation for developing partnerships within the business community, creating a platform for exchanging technical expertise, improving professional training for specialists, and establishing direct business links between equipment manufacturers and local farmers.
Agriculture remains a fundamental pillar of the Kyrgyz economy, accounting for approximately 10% of the country’s GDP and employing a significant portion of the workforce. The government of Kyrgyzstan considers the modernization of agriculture a strategic priority aimed at increasing yields, upgrading irrigation infrastructure, and fostering value-added food processing. Cooperation with Italy, which includes technology transfer and equipment supply, represents a significant component of this comprehensive national strategy to ensure the economic stability and growth of the country's agricultural sector.
