Farm in Mykolaiv region reduces machinery passes due to staff shortages

Due to a shortage of workers, an agricultural enterprise in the Mykolaiv region is optimizing its field operations by reducing tillage passes, combining operations, and eliminating unnecessary machinery passes. This approach saves fuel and utilizes the available human resources more effectively, reports The Ukrainian Farmer.

At Kornatsky Agricultural Firm LLC, the supply of agricultural machinery and crop-growing resources is not an issue. Instead, the farm is experiencing a critical shortage of workers and is therefore forced to adapt its production processes to the current headcount.

According to the enterprise's chief agronomist, despite reserving 50% of its staff, personnel is still lacking. To complete the necessary work, the farm has essentially organized operations into three shifts. Over the past two years, the number of older workers has increased by approximately 30%. Some of them are retirees, particularly drivers. Women have not yet been involved in such work.

One of the ways the farm has adapted to the personnel shortage is by optimizing machinery use. Depending on production needs, the enterprise reduces the number of tillage operations, combines individual tasks, and eliminates redundant machinery passes.

This approach simultaneously reduces diesel fuel consumption and labor requirements. Under current conditions, optimization has become not only a way to save money for the farm but also a necessity to complete field work on time with the existing team.
