Farmers in 9 Oblasts of Ukraine Receive Grain Storage Sleeves

The distribution of special sleeves for temporary grain storage has officially begun for agricultural producers in Ukraine. This humanitarian assistance is designated for farming enterprises located in nine front-line oblasts that cultivate between 100 and 3,000 hectares of land, according to the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

One of the distribution events took place in Sumy Oblast with the participation of Denys Bashlyk, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Ukrainian Red Cross, the international humanitarian organization Prosper Global, and the Sumy Oblast Military Administration. The program covers agricultural producers in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv oblasts.

Priority is given to agricultural enterprises whose infrastructure has suffered damage as a result of military hostilities. The sleeves are intended for storing their own harvested grains and oilseeds. Following the application process via the State Agrarian Register, farmers from the nine targeted oblasts submitted 2,319 applications to receive a total of 13,881 sleeves.

It is worth noting that a single sleeve holds approximately 200 tons of grain. Consequently, the total volume requested by farmers corresponds to an additional storage capacity of roughly 2.8 million tons of grain and oilseed crops. The assistance is provided to agricultural producers completely free of charge.

This initiative is being implemented by FAO, the UN World Food Programme (WFP), Prosper Global, and the Ukrainian Red Cross in close cooperation with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. The program receives financial and institutional support from the Government of Canada, the European Union, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, and the U.S. Department of State.
